Development of a technology for producing PET strapping from recycled PET in accordance with the principles of circular economy
Project objective:
The main objective of the project is to create a process that allows the production of PET strapping from selectively collected PET strapping. At the moment, PET strapping is produced almost exclusively from recycled PET flakes made from recycled bottles. Because of their origin, these flakes are of high engineering value and using them to produce less valuable goods is a waste of their potential. It is known as “downcycling”, which is a process where materials with high engineering value are made into products of lower quality and functionality. The objective of this project is to produce PET strapping with the use of less technologically valuable raw materials. The main raw material used in the proposed process is also PET strapping, which will come from selective collection. This will close the recycling loop and introduce a process that fully meets the criteria of circular economy, in which the product is recycled and used to make the same product.
